About Fletcher School
Our school is a small but precious jewel tucked into a quiet neighborhood known as Bird Land, by our city's leading hospitals and centrally located Kearny Mesa.
Here staff and parental support are outstanding. We function as a community of learners with a real “family” feel. We service general education as well as special education students in a warm, supportive atmosphere. Our mission is for administrators, staff members, parents and students to work together to provide a positive and challenging environment that supports learning at all levels.
Teachers and administrators engage in ongoing professional development in literacy, mathematics, science, and English as a second language. Fletcher has received the Title I Academic Achievement Award for a fourth year in a row. This is an outstanding recognition of the hard work by the many people who put in extra effort for our kids.
We have a wonderfully diverse student body that brings multiculturalism into action on our campus. Some 22 percent of our students are still learning English fluency, and 62 percent qualify for free or reduced lunch. To reinforce the lessons of diversity we have adopted as our motto: TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More. The TEAM work works! Our kids work and play together in harmony.
We have very active parent and community support and involvement. Recently, a group of volunteers beautified our campus with a new mural, a makeover of the teachers’ lounge and the creation of a new student snack area that is colorful, practical and filled with character -- not just the character-filled children who love gathering there, but the pillars of our character education program.
Our character education program honors students frequently when they demonstrate the traits in their deeds, to reinforce those concepts and reward and reinforce their efforts. The Parent Teacher Association (PTA), volunteers, and school partners play an integral part in the success of our children. We believe that this strong sense of community and our needs-based instructional practices are preparing our students to face the challenges of the future.
