Mrs. Miller's Biography

My name is Sharon Miller and I have been teaching in SDUSD for the past eleven years. It feels good to survive all past budget cuts and being able to keep my job. I am proud to be named, "Teacher of the Year" by my fellow colleagues. It is an honor that I truly treasure.

I have been at Sequoia Elementary for the past five years teaching fifth grade. I really enjoy this community and the families are fabulous.  I feel lucky to be part of such a wonderful staff. I have teaching experience in both primary and upper grades along with one year of middle school experience  in the content areas of english and social studies. I am GATE certified and have received my Master's Degree too.

My teaching philosophy is to push my students to ensure high expectations for themselves while molding them into respectful citizens. I value a three-way relationship in my classroom: student, parent, and myself. I believe students can achieve anything but they just need to have confidence.

I grew up in Port Huron, Michigan near Detroit. I moved to Carson City, Nevada when I was in my early teens. I stayed in the Nevada area and started my college experience in Reno. Then, I reconnected with some family members in San Diego in my early 20's and have stayed ever since!

My husband, Eric teaches social studies at Mira Mesa High School and coaches track and cross-country. We have one daughter, Keilani who is in third grade this year. My other child is our dog, Kava who keeps us busy! I really enjoy the outdoors and conducting research on my family tree. Genealogy is my hobby.
