Clearing Browser Cache

If you are having trouble viewing new content on the San Diego Unified School District's websites, you may need to clear your web browser's cache.

What is a browser?
A browser is a program used to view web pages. Some examples of browsers include Internet Explorer (IE), Safari, Netscape, and Firefox. If you are using a Macintosh, Safari is the district's required browser. If you are using a PC, Internet Explorer is the required browser.

What is browser cache?
Sometimes referred to as internet cache, browser cache (pronounced "cash") is simply a section of your computer's hard drive memory dedicated to storing files associated with web pages you've visited. This can make browsing faster because the stored items can be quickly loaded from the cache without the need for further downloading. When pages are updated, however, the new page must be downloaded (rather than loading from cache) to view the new information. Normally, this occurs automatically, but there may be cases where it may not. This is especially true for non-native web formats such as Microsoft Office documents (e.g., Word/.doc, Excel/.xls, Powerpoint/.ppt, etc.). If you know or suspect you are not seeing the most recent content, you may need to manually clear your browser's cache.
