Vision
Comprehensive parent involvement includes the participation of parents in all aspects of their children’s education resulting in improved and supportive relationships among students, parents and teachers; and provides significant academic and social growth for their children.
Overview
The Parent, Community and Student Engagement (PCSE) Office works to engage the community—including parents, students, local residents, businesses and organizations—in the education process to assure a collaborative partnership. The San Diego Unified School District is committed to providing parent involvement opportunities of sufficient size, scope and quality to promote an effective home-school partnership by:
- Providing opportunities to help parents strengthen their parenting and literacy skills to foster conditions at home that affect children’s efforts in learning;
- Supporting the efforts of parents to work with their children to understand and attain the district academic content standards;
- Encouraging and facilitating parental interest and involvement in school organizations and activities;
- Encouraging parents to assume school and district leadership roles in governance, advisory and advocacy decision-making processes;
- Helping parents acquire needed services through identified school district and community resources;
- Training principals, staff and parents to build a partnership between the home and school to promote effective two-way communication;
- Consulting with parents on an ongoing basis concerning the manner in which schools and parents can work together to plan, design, implement and evaluate school programs to ensure academic progress;
