Early childhood education provides children with the critical foundational skills, strategies, and experiences that promote success in school and beyond.

Programs
  • EarlyLink School Readiness Program State Preschools
    Provides early childhood education experiences with special emphasis on preparation for Kindergarten to children who are four years old.
  • Even Start Programs
    A family literacy program emphasizing the key concept that a parent is their child’s first and most important teacher.
  • Child Development Centers
    Provides subsidized child care for ages two through school age children whose parents are working or attending school.
  • Cal-SAFE Program
    Provides support services to expectant and parenting teens while completing their high school education.
  • Pre-Kindergarten and Family Literacy
    This program serves children and families in low performing schools. Family support is enhanced through parent education, interactive literacy and integrated instruction in the home.
  • Head Start Collaboration
    Collaboration between the District and Neighborhood House Association to provide academic, health and social services, and childcare to children and families who are Head Start eligible at the District preschools and child development center sites.
