Overview
School Police Services is responsible for ensuring a peaceful and safe environment conducive to teaching and learning. Key functions include:
  • Maintaining order in and around schools, allowing for continued education without disruption
  • Deterring crime through established enforcement procedures
  • Management of criminal investigations and apprehensions; and successful prosecutions
  • Statistical data gathering
  • Truancy enforcement
  • Proactive promotion of safety/security on or near all district facilities
School Police are responsible for coordinating the annual review and revision of the state-mandated Safe School Plan, and lead the district's response to all emergency situations.

The department has 39 fully sworn police officers, 22 community service officers and 15 support staff. It averages about 13,000 telephone calls each month into its 24-hour communications center.
