Prop. S Update: Serra High Preps for New Field and Track |
Preparations are underway at Serra High School to begin installing the school’s new synthetic turf field and all-weather track. The $1.5 million project is funded by Proposition S. Serra is one of several district high schools getting new synthetic turf football fields and running tracks, which are more cost-effective to maintain. Read more.

School Police Chief Helps Raise Funds for STAR/PAL |
Don Braun, San Diego Unified's Police Chief, recently waited tables and collected tips for one of the region's premier programs that helps kids, STAR/PAL. The eleventh annual "Superheroes for Youth" Celebrity Waiter Luncheon was a fun-filled fundraiser which brought out local celebrities to "wait" on tables and entertain their guests in exchange for "tips" (donations)…all to benefit youth. Vista Grande Students Make History at National History Day
Four students were named state champs and another received a special award for her project as Vista Grande Elementary made the trek to the recent National History Day California competition in San Jose. This year's theme was "Debate and Diplomacy" and all the students picked projects on historic events that matched the theme. Read more.
Law School Hosts Future Lawyers from Crawford Law and Business
Thomas Jefferson School of Law Black Law Students Association recently welcomed 33 students from Crawford School of Law and Business to its new downtown facility. Students toured the new facility and lunched with current law students before dividing into six groups to argue each side of three controversial school-youth related cases. Read more.
Hoover JROTC Cadet is Europe Bound
Edgar Vargas initially joined the Cardinals Interact program at Hoover High School for the opportunity to become more involved, interact with his fellow students and maintain good grades. Not only did he attain these goals, he gained much more as he was selected to attend the fully-funded Rotary Youth Exchange Summer Camp in Amsterdam this summer. Read more.
New Student-Created Digital Map Helps Identify Possible Internships, Partners
Kearny students are using industry standard software to map all career technical education programs at the middle and high schools in the district and the corresponding businesses surrounding the schools. Read more.
Canyon Gets Helping Hand from Kearny Cadets
Tecolote Canyon, located on the southwestern side of Clairemont, benefited from a recent service project by Kearny Complex JROTC students, who helped remove trash and non-native plants from the nature preserve. Read more.
La Jolla High Takes County Academic League Championship
La Jolla High has been crowned the San Diego County Academic League champion, following a day in which the eventual champion Vikings played the top schools from each of the county's four regions. The Viking Academic League team will now go on to the National Academic League finals in Atlanta. Read more.

Just how fast can you take apart and put back together an automobile engine? Teams of automotive technology students from Madison and Crawford IDEA high schools recently found out for themselves, competing in the third annual Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge Regional competition. Read more.
