CABRILLO ELEMENTARY'S NEW NAVY PARTNER - ARCO DRY DOCK at SUB BASE POINT LOMA!
On Friday, May 11, 2012, Principal Nestor Suarez and the commanding officer from ARCO Dry Dock, LCDR Mack Schmidt signed a new partnership agreement. The sailors from ARCO Dry Dock, located at Sub Base Point Loma will help Cabrillo students with reading, computer and outdoor activities on an ongoing basis.
"We want to do everything we can to help these kids succeed," said LCDR Schmidt. LT Michael Woodcock, CMDCM Robert Gleason and BMC Mark House accompanied LCDR Schmidt to Cabrillo to participate in the signing ceremony, tour the campus and interact with the kids. Our Navy School Liaison, Robin Williamson facilitated the process.
During the ceremony, LCDR Schmidt explained to the students what the ARCO Dry Dock looks like and how it operates. He used a photo, which was later presented to Principal Suarez, to describe the process of servicing a submarine. LCDR Schmidt also presented Principal Suarez with the ARCO coin, which he explained every command has a unique one. ARCO is named after a city in Idaho, which was the first city in the US completely powered by nuclear energy.
Next, the sailors went into the library where the partnership agreement was signed. "We're very excited to have ARCO as our new Navy Partner," said Principal Suarez. "We have so many kids moving in and out of Cabrillo throughout the year. Each student requires a little extra attention and we're happy for the help ARCO can provide us."
Welcome to Cabrillo Elementary, ARCO!
