With summer break just around the corner I would like to share a favorite Seneca quote, “The mind should be allowed some relaxation, that it may return to its work all the better for the rest.” Yes, summer is here! It just astounds me how quickly this year has zipped by. Oh behalf of the Bay Park Staff, thank you for working with us and for supporting all of our Stingrays throughout the year. Working in concert truly makes Bay Park a phenomenal school.
We have had a wonderfully busy end of the school year with the PTA Gala, Spring Open House, Book Fair, Choir Concert, Fourth Grade Musical, Biztown, and many many other activities…and we still have another week to go! Our fifth graders are getting ready for promotion and our TK-4th graders are busy preparing for their next grade level. The success of our school events and academic success is due to you, the dedicated families of Bay Park, working hand-in-hand with Bay Park’s enthusiastic staff who go above and beyond to help make this a very special school. I also want to pass along a special thank you to all of the parents who have supported our students through working on school committees and boards. All of our work together makes our school a special place of learning and growing together.
Like last year, we are going to have going to have an all-school picnic and sack lunch on the grass area in front of the school (Denver Street) on Thursday. The cafeteria will only be serving sack lunches, no salad bar or hot entrées. All students will be eating their lunch with their classmates and teachers. Please join us if your schedule allows. The last day of school will be Friday, June 13. This will be a modified day, with a dismissal time of 1:00 pm. The 5th grade promotion is Thursday, June 12 at 9:30 in the auditorium.
This will be the last Bay Park Press for this school year. Our students have accomplished so much both academically and socially this year. Thank you for supporting them with their homework, class work and school activities. This summer encourage your children to read every day and enjoy playing outside in our beautiful city.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have ideas for next year…the more ideas the better! You can contact me through the school office, 619-276-1471 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
With kind regards,
I thought I would share a fun suggestion one of our teachers made when I asked about how to keep my kids engaged in some type of educational activity over the summer...
She suggested creating a "gratitude journal" where they write at least one thing daily that they are thankful for.
I LOVE this idea for so many reasons!
First, I have been hearing more and more that creating a regular practice of sharing gratitude positively impacts a person's well being; and if we can start these good habits early we set our kids up for a more healthy and positive life experience. Second, because I know that the goodwill that is created when someone shares genuine gratitude is powerful and creates more positivity in our school community. Last, it's a simple thing for our kids to do and it feels like a fun summer activity instead of "summer homework".
As I reflect on my time as PTA President, I am filled with gratitude for so many things... our amazing volunteers, our great sense of community and the strong connections our kids are making to each other and our families. I am deeply grateful for the amazing teachers and staff who ensure there is a safe and positive learning environment for our children every single day.
Enjoy your summer, and try creating a gratitude practice, see what it brings!
Each year schools nominate a classified employee of the year as a recognition of their exceptional work. The district reviews the nomination forms of all the selected Classified Employees of the Year from all the schools and the district offices and then selects one person to represent the entire district as the San Diego Unified School District's Classified Employee of the Year.
Bay Park's wonderful Pauline Burt was as the district's Classified Employee of the Year! Yes, for the entire school district! A well-deserved honor! Pauline is a truly amazing special education assistant and community member. She arrives early each day and is committed to her work here at Bay Park. Pauline wears many hats outside of her daily work supporting our students. Years ago she helped to establish the Bay Park Foundation and continues to serve on the board as treasurer to work to ensure that the Foundation continues each year to support our students. Pauline coordinates and works with our Safety Patrol, she bundles all the tickets for the Halloween Carnival and is constantly helping to beautify our campus.
With a smile, Pauline jumps in to help where ever it is needed. As you can see, Pauline is a do-er and a problem solver. Most of all, Pauline is a strong advocate for students. She works tirelessly each day to support them both academically and socially. Thank you Pauline for brightening our lives!
Pauline was honored at the official district celebration on Tuesday, May 20 at Marston Middle School. We are so proud of you!!!
