Energy For Teachers


The Utility Management Section is working to help San Diego Unified School District's teachers integrate lessons about energy and water conservation/efficiency, recycling, and photovoltaics into their classroom.

  • Energy Smart Schools - Teaching Resources- A site designed to give teachers links and reasons for teaching about energy. Includes useful organizations, lesson plans, energy science projects, and useful links. This site also helps answer important questions such as why we should teach about energy, how to get kids interested, and how energy efficient schools can improve learning
  • Sunsite Funsite- An introduction to solar energy from the Tucson Electric Power Company.
  • Florida Solar Energy Center- This site contains curriculum units on a wide variety of topics including conservation, alternative energy technologies, and understanding of the natural systems around us.red box
  • Wisconsin Energy Education Program (KEEP)
    The KEEP program includes downloadable resources such as readings, activities, baseline studies, conceptual guide, and newsletters that can be used in K-12 classrooms. The site also contains a special elementary education supplemental.
  • National Energy Education Development (NEED)
    NEED is a nonprofit association dedicated to promoting an understanding of the scientific, economic and environmental impacts of energy. Their website contains pdf's of energy info-books and activities for all grade levels.
  • National Energy Foundation
    A non-profit website that provides educational materials and programs related to energy, the environment, and natural resources. Their educator page contains an online catalog, workshops, graduate courses, and online lessons and activities.
  • Energy Quest
    A user-friendly, interactive website for teachers and students with information on projects, renewables, and energy conservation ideas. This site also includes ideas for books/printed resources, other energy education websites, lesson plans, organizations, a teacher list serve and bulletin board, workshop opportunities, and higher education programs.
  • Department of Energy's Teacher Resources
    A comprehensive site that contains lesson plans, activities for all grade levels, energy education resources, an overall look at energy and how energy and recycling are linked, and grant opportunities.
  • Alliance To Save Energy
    A website offering multidisciplinary, hands-on educational opportunities with downloadable lesson plans.
