School Safety

Our school has a Crisis Response Box that includes a comprehensive school safety plan. Required by the state, the plan includes policies and procedures for responding to:

  • Disasters such as fire, earthquake, or situations requiring a lock down.
  • Serious disciplinary problems.
  • C hild abuse.
  • Sexual harassment.

Practice drills are periodically held to ensure that students will be safe in the event of a disaster.

Adult supervision is provided in classrooms and in outside areas before and after school, during recess and lunch, and during passing time between classes. Under the direction of the principal or site administrator, specific school building security procedures are implemented by staff. In addition, district offices support schools by reviewing and disseminating safety requirements and information, coordinating safety-related services, and providing training and assistance.

All visitors must report to the main office and secure a pass, which is to be worn while on campus. To pick up a child from school, an individual must be an adult listed on the student’s enrollment card and able to prove his/her identity with a picture ID.

Disaster Preparedness Plan

safety

In the event of an earthquake or other major disaster:

  1. PLEASE DO NOT PANIC - WE ARE PREPARED TO CARE FOR YOUR CHILD IN TIMES OF CRITICAL SITUATIONS.  STAFF MEMBERS WILL STAY UNTIL ALL CHILDREN ARE SAFELY WITH THEIR PARENT OR DESIGNATED ADULT.

  2. Students will be released from school only to a parent or individual designated on our emergency cards.

  3. No child will be allowed to leave with anyone who is not on our emergency card unless written permission is provided by the parent.

  4. All parents or designated parties who come for students must sign the child out at the office or at the designated student release station located at the reunion gate by the office.

  5. Please do not call the school.  Telephone lines must be open for emergency calls.

  6. Following an earthquake or other emergency, do not drive immediately to school.  The streets may be cluttered with debris and school access routes and street entrance areas must remain clear for emergency vehicles.  ASSIGNED STAFF MEMBERS WILL BE DIRECTING TRAFFIC AWAY FROM THE SCHOOL.  PLEASE PARK YOUR CAR ON A NEARBY STREET AND WALK TO SCHOOL.

  7. Turn your radio to the emergency numbers being broadcast.  Information and further directions will be given on the radio.

  8. Be sure to have a family plan in case of a disaster, including leaving a note with friends/relatives giving them permission to care for your child.  DISCUSS FAMILY PLANS WITH YOUR CHILD.  CHILDREN HANDLE THINGS MUCH BETTER WHEN THEY KNOW WHAT TO DO.

AGAIN, BE ASSURED, WE WILL TAKE CARE OF YOUR CHILD!

Please be certain that in addition to having a current  home address and phone number on file at the school we need a local relative’s, friend’s or neighbor’s name and number in case it is impossible to contact you!
