Overview
Gage Elementary is located in an established San Carlos neighborhood consisting of single family houses and apartment units. The school serves a richly diverse ethnic/racial population.
Accomplishing our goal of proficiency for all students takes continuous work from the entire Gage community: staff, students, and parents. We work diligently to make our campus parent friendly. To provide parents with more opportunities for involvement in their child's education, we offer hands-on family nights for math, science, and physical education. This year we invited parents to experience a typical day in elementary school with our "Take Your Parents to School Day".
We have a wonderful morning running program. Students who run, walk, or jog daily from 7:30 to 7:45 a.m. earn a running ticket for each lap completed. At morning recess, students must complete a minimum of one quarter-mile lap before using playground equipment. Teachers record student laps. Students earn ribbons at 25, 50, 75, and 100 laps, and a Popsicle for every 10 miles completed. During the 2011-12 school year, Gage students ran more than 30,992.75 miles with 55 "Top Runners" reaching 150 miles or more. Many mornings, family members can be seen running the field with students. On the first Friday mornings, students along with teachers and parents, participate in our TGIF-Fitness program. Both of these programs continue to be wonderful community relationship builders.
