Mr Gallo's 1st Grade class measures a Sugar Snap Pea Plant.

These were planted from seed on October 30th.  Now they

measure 4" Tall.  Come back to watch them grow!

The apple trees are producing apples.

 

The warm weather is extending the growing season and the apples need a few more weeks on the tree.  If you have a student at Pacific Beach - remind them to let the apples stay on the tree.

 

A class will be picking the apples very soon!

 

 

 

The Pumpkin seeds planted last year have grown.

It is amazing how a little seed given soil, water and sun grew into

these pumpkins!  It is fun to see the variety of pumpkins.

The Kindergarten class planted the sunflower seeds in the garden.

Mrs. Wilson's class begins planting pumpkin seeds.  The Pumpkin mounds are ready and the students start poking seeds into soil.  The seeds were harvested from last fall's pumpkins Peter and Jack - grown in the PB Elementary Garden.  What will this crop bring?

 

 

 

 

 

Mr Hirsch's Class studied the relationship between the civil war and cotton.

The Garden has several established cotton plants.  Students picked cotton over the year.

Students used leaves to make prints for their cotton memory pillows.  Each cotton pillow was

hand stuffed with cotton from the PB Elementary Garden.

Today the students planted sunflower, tomato and milkweed seeds.

 

Differences were observed in seed color, texture and size. The students learned the days to germination can vary.  We will track the calendar and see the number of days until we observe the first juvenile leaves.

The Kindergarten Students are learning the skills of observation and recording as they document the growth of the green bean plants. 

This science project supports the study of non-fiction text in literacy.

Mrs. Wilson Kindergarten Class began the year planting raddish and carrot seeds.

The students watch in amazement as the seeds they planted sprouted and grew.

 

Harvest time was great fun as the children reached into the planter grabbed the stem and Pulled - out popped a "Carrot."

There were lots of Wows! Huge smiles and Great delight and the resulting Carrot firmly in hand.  Who knew vegetables could be so much FUN!  Everybody wanted to pull another.

 

After cleaning the carrots, the students began a detailed observation.  What is a carrot? The students determined it was the root.
