Behavior on the Playground

The playground will be a positive, safe and civil area where students and staff will interact with courtesy and respect while students engage in joyful play.

Expectations for Student Behavior:  Students will...
 
  • Walk with their class and teacher to the edge of the blacktop.
  • Remain in the recess area: on blacktop, or at snack tables: passes are required to leave the recess area.
  • Walk in designated WALKING ZONES (the matted areas around play structures, snack tables, and bathroom).
  • Consume healthy snacks sitting at the snack tables only.
  • Follow game and play structure rules as taught (no chasing games).
  • When the whistle is blown 3 times for the 5 minute warning, go to the bathroom or get a drink if they haven’t done so already.
  • When the bell rings to signal the end of recess:
    • “stop and drop” (stop playing and kneel on the ground)
    • when the whistle blows, walk to line up
    • replace equipment by carrying it to the appropriate place
    • not get drinks or go to the bathroom after the bell
  • Show pride in their school by putting trash into garbage cans and cleaning up litter.
  • Be respectful toward peers and adults by using kind and polite language.
  • If any adult asks that you to correct a behavior while moving on campus, respond respectfully and correct the behavior as requested.
  • Respect each others’ personal space.
  • Stay away from mud and puddles.
  • Leave rocks and sticks on the ground.
  • If they hurt another student by accident, apologize for their actions by looking at the individual and kindly saying they are sorry.
  • Immediately report any safety concerns or injuries to an adult on supervision and not try to move seriously injured students.
