CELDT stands for the California English Language Development Test. Your child is considered an English Learner if the family has indicated that another language other than English is used at home in the home language survey. This form is filled out when students enter Spreckels. If your child is an English learner, she or he will take part in an annual assessment in September and October called the California English Language Development Test (CELDT). This test measures English progress in four areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
As new students enter Spreckels throughout the school year, I will test their English using this same assessment. The results aret hen shared with teachers and parents within 30 days of enrollment.
In the springtime, official CELDT results will be sent home via U.S. Mail. During parent conference week I will hold a parent meeting on how to read these results and to share how they are used in your child's educational career.
I am also available to meet with you to discuss your child's official or unofficial CELDT results by appointment. If you would like to meet with me regarding your child's CELDT progress, please e-mail me for an appointment time.
