California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) Current Administration of CAHSEE tests, for Mt. Everest Academy 10th graders, class of 2014: ENGLISH-LANGUAGE ARTS: Tuesday, March 13, 2012, 8:30 a.m. room TBD. Note 1: This includes both the multiple choice and writing exams). MATHEMATICS: Wednesday, March 14, 2012, 8:30 a.m. room TBD. Note 1: Calculators are not allowed.
Expect the tests to take a total of 3 to 4 hours each day. The math exam might not take as long since there's only one math exam, but the length of time it takes a student depends on the student's math skills. Students: take your time! There's no need to rush, so take your time with each question, write out your work, and double-check. Basic Information Website: Program Resources (From CDE [California Department of Education]: Supplemental information for the High School Exit Examination, such as the blueprint, released test questions, study guides, teacher guides.) The state's resources for both English-Language Arts and mathematics are available at this resource page. Some of the links from this resource page are shown as follows: ENGLISH-LANGUAGE ARTS: CAHSEE Language Arts Blueprint. Lists each content standard tested, and the number of test questions matching each content standard. Note: the most recent blueprint available is from 2003, but the information contained in it is still be applicable to the current exam (that blueprint was the last one approved by the State Board of Education; no new blueprint has since been approved). English-Language Arts (ELA) Released Test Questions (made available October 2008). This is an excellent resource. 241 questions have been released from prior exams. Only 73 questions are on the ELA exam, so these 241 questions can provide a good review for many--even most--of the concepts and skills that are necessary to pass the ELA exam. English-Language Arts Study Guide. This is the state's most recently updated pamphlet for all 10th grade students in the state. It is downloadable, in full or in parts. English-Language Arts Teacher’s Study Guide. Students and parents are welcome to read this if they wish. Some of the explanations of problems, especially the analysis of the correct answers and the distractors, might be helpful for areas where students might feel weakest. MATHEMATICS: An excellent website that has videos teaching how to do 53 sample CAHSEE problems is found at this link. The 53 sample problems are available as a practice test at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/hs/documents/mathpractest.pdf. However, the answers are not provided; you have to watch the videos to get the answers. CAHSEE Math Blueprint Lists each content standard tested, and the number of test questions matching each content standard. Notice that the standards are from Grade 6, Grade 7, and Algebra 1. Note: the most recent blueprint available is from 2003, but the information contained in it is still be applicable to the current exam (that blueprint was the last one approved by the State Board of Education; no new blueprint has since been approved). Math Released Test Questions (made available October 2008). This is an excellent resource. 216 questions have been released from prior exams, matched to the five strands on the test. Only 80 questions are on the math exam, so these 216 questions can provide a good review for many--even most--of the concepts and skills that are necessary to pass the mathematics exam. Math Study Guide. This is the state's most recently updated pamphlet for all 10th grade students in the state. It is downloadable, in full or in parts. Math Teacher’s Guide. Students and parents are welcome to read this if they wish. Some of the explanations of problems, especially the analysis of the correct answers and the distractors, might be helpful for areas where students might feel weakest.
