IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW (Rules, Reminders, Etc.):
  1. *OPEN TIMES:  These are open testing times; students come anytime after a day’s first start time, as long as they start their tests by 2:05 (or 10:45 in the first Thursday session).  I insist on students having at least an hour available for a math test, although they are welcome to come earlier to give themselves more than an hour.

  2. *NO TIME LIMIT EXCEPT THE END OF THE TESTING SESSION: Students may take as long as they want, but they must be finished by 3:05.  Students should come as early as possible so they can be sure they'll have enough time to finish by the end of the session.  Once they finish, they may leave; there’s no need to wait.

  3. *NO EXTRA TIME: Parents and students, do not expect extra time after 3:05 (or 11:45 on Thursday morning).  Please bring your child to the testing time early enough so there's enough time to comfortably finish the test by the end of the session.  You should have an idea how much time is needed by how proficiently someone does the math at home (doing it without notes or textbook or without asking anyone for help).

  4. *ONE SITTING:  Student must finish a test (meaning just part one, or just part two) in one sitting.  They may not start such a test and then take a lunch break before finishing it, and they may not wait until another day before finishing it.  I do allow bathroom or water breaks during a test session, but the test must still be finished by the end of that session.  Students are allowed to bring drinks into the classroom.

  5. *TWO PARTS: The monthly math test may be completed in two parts.  Students and parents have the choices of
    (1) completing the test in two parts over two days,
    (2) taking both parts in one day but with lunch or more study in between, or
    (3) taking both parts at one time
    (4) taking one part on the Monday afternoon after the testing week (however, one part MUST ALREADY HAVE BEEN DONE during the normal Wednesday-through-Friday math testing schedule, as shown above.  Note: either part may be done first.

  6. *MUST FINISH IN ONE SITTING: A test that's started must be completed in that sitting.  Students may not finish part of it and then come back another time or another day.

  7. *LATE PENALTY: There's a 15% penalty if a student does not take the monthly test on time, according to the schedule on this page.  Details:
         •  The penalty also applies to the retake test for a late monthly test.
         •  “Not ready” is unacceptable in almost all cases.  Students and parents are responsible for planning and preparing effectively.  Even taking 2 or 3 tests in one day is not an acceptable reason for delaying a test, given that I have a three-day window for taking my math tests.
         •  Unavoidable conflicts, emergencies, and illness are appropriate reasons for not being ready for a test.  I will always waive the late penalty in such cases.  However, only a parent may request postponing a math test.  Parents, please email me before the end of the monthly test week when such a need arises.  Please note that the score in the grade book will be a zero (F) until the test is taken, though that F will be completely replaced by the new, correct score.

  8. *TEST TIMES WHEN LATE (APPROVED AND NOT APPROVED): Follow the retake math testing schedule, shown on a different page in this website (see the left menu).

  9. *CALCULATORS:
----------No calculators are allowed for Pre-Algebra, Algebra Readiness, Algebra Regular, or Algebra Advanced.
----------Calculators ARE allowed for Unifying AE, Geometry Advanced, Unifying, Intermediate Algebra Regular, or Intermediate Algebra Advanced.

  10. *NOTES ON TESTS:  I do not allow students to use notes on tests in any math course.  Students' preparation for tests should make them able to complete math problems because they really know them well, not by depending on other supports that thus show they really do not know how to do the math.
