Congratulations to our student of the month for May, Kenia Ramirez.
A sophomore. Kenia was nominated by several teachers including Ms' Wilcox, Bunch, Collins and Bertrand. Biology teacher Ms Bertrand said, “She is incredibly helpful, volunteers in class, always participates, is always positive, and helps a student in class who is blind by taking notes and reading for him.” She was also one of the top 100 picks, as she was in her History class. Collins calls her “awesome,” and Ms Bunch calls her a team player, saying she asks great questions that further everyone’s understanding. She is not ashamed to ask and she is not ashamed of being eager to learn. Ms Wilcox calls Kenia a participator, always willing to jump in on the next unit of study. Her ability to connect with her peers is admirable. She brings life to the class with her energy, creativity and her infectious camaraderie. She is truly an asset to our student body. In addition, Kenia is on our track team, she is part of Circle of Friends, and she volunteers as a drama coach at Pershing Middle School. Kenia, you make us proud.
Congratulations to our student of the month for April 2013, Giovanna Dowell.
Giovanna was nominated by Mr. Hunt, Mr. Hockmuth, Mr. Myette, Mrs. Baron and Ms Crampton. “Gio” is a captain of the track team, was captain of the cross country team, is co-president of the photography club and she contributed photos and logistic work on the Patrick Henry calendar. She is described as responsible, hard-working, enthusiastic, amazing, terrific, an asset to the school, attentive and always willing to help anyone in need. Gio, "goes about her work with grace, determination and aplomb that few her age do."
Congratulations to our student of the month for March 2013, Anant Pandadija.
Mrs. Baron said he exemplifies what it is to characterize that honor. Anant is a member of 2 of the clubs Baron advises and she has found him to be an outstanding young man who always takes the initiative to do what needs to be done. He volunteers to help with every activity be it working with the other club members or independently. He is extremely personable and very much respected by those around him. His other teachers have made the following comments: Anant is an “Amazing student…persistent, inquisitive, helpful, enthusiastic…just a great student overall.” Another said “I would absolutely recommend him…. He is dedicated, inquisitive, a critical thinker, and gives his best effort/full attention to all endeavors.” And still another noted, “Anant is a great student in my class. He is responsible and respectful….he works well with his peers and is a pleasure to have in class.” Anant, you are a real asset to our student body.
Congratulations to our student of the month for February, Jorge Matt-Navarro.
Jorge was nominated by Mrs. Good and seconded by Mrs. Hamilton. Jorge is the Secretary General for the JMUN conference for the district and president of MUN club, running meetings for over 100 students. He is in Hamilton’s Mock Trial group of students. He runs cross country and track. Jorge is also an outstanding student who is involved in extra-curricular activities and AP level classes.
Congratulations to our Student of the Month for January 2013, Senior Jenny Laird. Jenny was nominated by her German teacher, Ms. Lange for “being the best German Club president I’ve ever had.” Other teachers agree that Jenny is a leader and a participator and has been a real asset to our student body.
Congratulations to our student of the month for December, Sophomore Sam Sweeney.
Mrs. Baron saidSam is kind and thoughtful. He has been on the honor roll continuously at Henry. Sam plays Lacrosse and water polo. He is in his second year on ASB. During his freshman year, he was treasurer and this year sophomore treasurer. He volunteers at Hearst Elementary School during festivals, book fairs, etc., babysits, plays piano, runs, swims and is an excellent role model for his peers.
