Congratulations to Joey Schindler for being selected for Boys State winner.  American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high school students. A participatory program in which students become part of the operation of local, county and state government, Boys State was founded in 1935 to counter the socialism-inspired Young Pioneer Camps.

At Boys State, participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments.

Legion posts select high school juniors to attend the program. Joey Schindler was selected to from Patrick Henry high to attend Boys State in Sacramento this summer and we are proud to have him represent Patrick Henry!

Sara has been named a semifinalist in the Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology for 2013! Only 310 students (out of 2400 applicants) advanced to the semifinals, based on the merit of their independent research projects and 20-page scientific reports. Her report, Neuronal Nonlinear Dynamics: From an Optical Illusion to Parkinson's Disease, won First Place in Physics, as well as the Senior Division Sweepstakes Award in Physical Sciences at the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair. It then went on to win second place in physics at the Intel International Science Fair.

Sara is one of only a couple of semifinalists from southern California.
