A College Avenue Compact Program

This program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, is designed to provide activities, structures, supports (e.g., advisors/mentors), and instructional interventions to increase college and career readiness. The program here started in 2009-10 with grades 6 and 7 at Monroe Clark and Wilson Middle Schools and will move up a grade each year until the classes graduate from Hoover. For year 2010-11, the program will move up to grades 7 and 8 at both schools.
This GEAR UP grant began in July 2009 and is funded for 6 years. Funds support a project director, activities coordinator, mentors/advisors, workshops, field trips, materials, curriculum, professional development, parent education, and evaluation. The Executive Director of the College Avenue Compact is the project Principal Investigator (PI) and a SDSU professor who heads the Pre-College Institute is the co-PI.
