Lafayette has educated several generations of Clairemont residents in this quaint school nestled in east Clairemont. A community school with a naturally diverse population boasts academically rigorous instruction, rising test scores, and a friendly environment. We have a joyful tradition of gathering each morning for a school-wide assembly where students and staff gather before a day of learning. Students arrive by 7:40 AM, ready to do their best work.
Lafayette welcomes families as partners in education. We have an active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) that brings the school community together for family-friendly events. Monthly Family Fridays provide an opportunity for community members to learn more about the school and experience the joy of learning when they visit classrooms.
In June 2014, the Lafayette School Community collaborated with Rob Tobin and A Reason to Survive (ARTS) to install a 60 foot mural in honor of Yusra Nasir, a beloved student who passed away in the Summer of 2013. Yusra was profoundly Deaf and lost her sight at an early age. Throughout her short life, she was an avid learner and communicator. Yusra inspired all of us at Lafayette. This is the year she would have promoted to seventh grade, so at the sixth grade promotion ceremony on June 13, 2014 we will dedicate this beautiful mural in her memory. This tactile mural includes inspirational words by Helen Keller, which can be read in Braille by the visually impaired. We believe that Yusra would have felt the beauty of this mural with her heart. Yusra's Legacy will live on at Lafayette Elementary School for generations to come.Visit Lafayette Elementary School and enjoy our tactile mural entitled, "Yusra's Legacy."
