Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome you and your child to second grade in room 8!  My name is Mrs. Tammy Payton.  I have been teaching for 16 years in the San Diego Unified School District.  I have a B.A. in Literature/Writing and an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction as well as a specialist certificate in Reading Recovery and mathematics.  My favorite part of teaching is seeing that light bulb go on above your child’s head when he/she understands.  When I’m not in the classroom, I love hiking with friends and playing with my dog, Sadie.  You’ll meet her at the end of the school yearJ

I am so excited about this school year!  I have been having a fantastic time working with and getting to know your children the past two and a half weeks.

We have so many wonderful things planned.  In order for all the students in our classroom community to have the best possible learning experience, I have developed a Classroom Community Behavior Plan with the children of room 8.  It clearly outlines the rules, as well as the positive rewards for good behavior and the consequences for poor behavior choices.  This plan will allow me to guide your children in making good decisions about their behavior.

My goal is for all students to experience a positive educational climate and extraordinary academic growth.  I know you share my goal, and I look forward to working with you for a successful year.

Please discuss the plan on the next page with your child.  Then, sign, detach and return the bottom portion to me tomorrow.  I look forward to a wonderful school year with all of you!
