Meet Vice Principal Israel
Our hard-working Vice Principal, Mrs. Barbara Israel, has been educating students throughout the San Diego Unified School District for more than two decades. She began her teaching career as a first grade teacher and went on to eventually teach all grades K-6 at eight different sites. Her passion for teaching is having the ability to work closely with students and their families—especially in the areas of literacy and language acquisition and science. This is her third year serving as an administrator. Prior to her vice principalship at Miller, she worked as program manager of the elementary literacy department in the district’s central office. Growing up in Southern California, she attended the San Diego State University, where she obtained her degree, teaching credential, master’s degree and reading specialist credential. She went on to earn her administrative credential at University of San Diego. She is married and has two grown sons who continue to keep her up to date with technology. Her special interests include gardening, reading, and walking the beach. Being able to combine her experience as a teacher, a leader, and a mother makes her a dynamic Vice Principal. You can see her walking around the school campus greeting everyone in her path with a warm smile and embracing students with hugs. Her commitment and passion for student learning has resulted in raised self-esteem and positive learning environment for students here at Miller Elementary School. |
