Connect-EDConnect-ED

Connect-ED is an Internet-based mass communications tool currently available across San Diego Unified School District. The system enables schools to personally communicate with parents/guardians to support emergency preparedness, school community involvement and student attendance. A principal can make one phone call that reaches all families and staff members within minutes. Connect-ED is also used at a district-wide level with access by several central office departments, including Transportation, Human Resources, School Police and Food Services. The Connect-ED system is approved by the Board of Education, currently through the 2013 school year.

All district-run school sites have access to Connect-ED at no cost. For information on activating Connect-ED, please refer to Key Contacts listed below and review San Diego Unified School District's Connect-ED Best Practices and Guidelines Connect-ED Best Practices.

Connect-ED Authorized Users

The Connect-ed system may only be used by district employees or authorized charter school employees. Non-employee members of external organizations, such as PTAs and School Foundations, are not authorized to use Connect-ed. Principals or authorized staff members are welcome to send out messages on an external organization’s behalf. For security purposes, only staff members authorized by their principal or department head for the current school year will be granted user access. See memo to principals Memo to Principals School-wide or district-wide users must be confirmed by their principal/department head by the last day of September each new school year.  All others will be de-activated from the system on the following day. Teachers with access to Connect-ED Teacher are not affected. Principals and department heads are asked to e-mail sdusdusers@blackboardconnect.com with the following information for each staff member authorized to access school-wide or district-wide Connect-ED:

  • School site or department
  • Name
  • Title
  • sandi.net e-mail address
  • Phone number with extension
  • If staff member was transferred from another site

Connect-ED Automated Attendance Calls

Connect-ED automated attendance calls are optional but highly recommended for all district-run schools. Daily automated calls, particularly those sent in the morning, are valuable in several ways:
  • Return students to the classroom earlier, turning absences into tardies
  • Act as a security measure for parents who may not know their child is absent
  • Increase opportunities for ADA recovery
  • Assist school offices and attendance clerks to better manage the daily attendance process

For participating school sites, daily attendance calls will be automatically sent to parents and guardians by the central office at specific times programmed by each site. Attendance clerks will no longer need to make individual calls home, program an auto-dialer, or even use the manual attendance function offered through Connect-ED. The two-part process in Connect-ED and Zangle should take no more than 15 minutes to complete:
