Hello, and welcome to my web site! My name is Terry Homiston and I am the Physical Education Department Chair at University City High School.
I have been a teacher in the San Diego Unified School District for 30+ years, the past 19 here at University City High School.  Having been born and raised in San Diego and a product of the San Diego City Schools, I am quite familiar with the workings of our district.  I completed my undergraduate degree at San Diego State University, my Masters Degree, Teaching Credential, and Administrative Credential at Point Loma College and my Ph.D at Northern Arizona University.  For the past 16 years, my family has lived in the beautiful mountain town of Julian, and now our two children (son, 23 & daughter, 21) are both serving in our United States Military.  I love teaching and hope that I will be able to help your sons and daughters learn to enjoy physical activity so that they become active, happy, and healthy adults!

The goal of our department is to provide your son/daughter with a quality and interesting program with the hope that their time with us will be both a positive and rewarding experience.  Your student must earn 4 semester credits of physical education in order to graduate from high school.  These are generally earned during the freshman and sophomore years.  Also, the new California state law mandates that every students pass 5 out of 6 "FITNESSGRAM" physical fitness tests by the end of their sophomore year in order to opt out (parents must sign a waiver), of physical education the final two years of high school.  If a student cannot pass the required 5 out of 6 tests, he/she will automatically be enrolled in a physical fitness/education class the following year(s) until they graduate.

Although every student taking physical education has my name ("Homiston") listed as his or her teacher (for ease of paperwork in the main office, since changes are made every 6 weeks), there are currently 5 full-time and 1 part-time credentialed teachers in our department.  The following is an alphabetical list, with telephone extensions and e-mail addresses and any additional assignments/sports in which they are involved:

Every 6 weeks your son/daughter can choose the class which most appeals to their interests, and has not yet been closed to either class size or teacher discretion on student placement. A wide variety of activities/sports are offered throughout the year, including: aerobic exercise, badminton, basketball, cross-training, frisbee, fitness training, football, golf, hockey, racquetball, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball, and weight training.
